Can confirm, always doing this myself. But it's not just video game music, it's anything fast and preferrably metal. Can toss a few recommendations if anyone's interested.
Carpenter Brut has some good tracks for this, in particular Leather Teeth, Roller Mobster, Inferno Galore, and some other ones.
Then there's Hubrid, MASKED, and a bunch of other artists in the same genre of Synth/Darkwave for which they did come remixes.

And if you want a taste of the best of their production, here's perhaps my current favourite track by MASKED: https://soundcloud.com/maskedmusica/dangerous-zone
Can also confirm, except I do that with some jazzy lofi or background ambience soundtracks. I'm a fan for the slow but steady beats that just let you sit in them, rather than having to listen to them.
Scientifically not recommended. In short, youre not going to have that music when you take the test so youre less likely to recall what you studied when you dont have the music.
