I was talking to someone about it in that long-lost thread about barbecuing and unusual pets haha. I think famousone might be the one who actually said they HAD pet raccoons (or their dad did). Either way definitely not something for the faint of heart or ill-prepared to get in on
My great grandfather had one he raised from infancy. He was hunting (during the depression and the hunting everything in the country because they fed everyone who couldn't support themselves). Anyway he killed a raccoon and only after realizing it was a nursing female, so he went in search of her kit. He found the baby, took it home, named it Jojo, raised it. He had run of the house and land. He'd go out at night and my great grandmother would leave fried eggs in the oven for him to eat when he came back in. After that no one was allowed to hunt raccoons on their land.
@xvarnah
that's me. our racoons were the best pets ever. as they got older, they got super protective of our younger sister for some reason but they were a lot of fun.
^ And that right there is why I didn't tag famousone. I had a feeling I had the wrong person. I remember you talking about them haha. Did your dad ever decide if he's getting more raccoons or a fox?
I got friendly with a raccoon that would come on my porch every night. One day he picked up some of the food we'd leave out for the cats and held it tight in both hands, waddled over to me, and dumped it in my hands. I pretended to eat it and threw it over my shoulder on the other side because I didn't want to hurt his feelings (or piss him off.)
