The suit has a tank of air. The whole premis of the first movie is that the bad guy couldn't figure out why nothing living could shrink down. It's because they need a containment that supports their size, and obviously it'd mean that there is a pressurized air tank in the suit, that shrinks the air particles so they can still breath.
