One those alarms saved my grandmother and uncle. They lived in the home my grandmother and grandfather owned since the day they were married. It was built in days of cowboys and Indians. One the walls purposely bowed so if one person was on end the wall and one on the other the first couldn't see the 2nd.
Well anywho so one night my grandmother wakes to an alarm going off in the kitchen. She yells to my uncle to stop the sound but no answer. So she gets up and goes to the kitchen gets a broom KNOCKS the alarm off the wall takes it still beeping to my uncle's bed who is out cold she can't wake him so she goes to the phone calls 911 says she can't make the beeping frisbee stop beeping. It is a SMALL town they ALL know my grandmother. So they send a firetruck thinking it's her smoke alarm. No it's the carbon monoxide detector. My uncle is still out due to the carbon monoxide. Gets my uncle to breath again he is good they take both to hospital.
Turns out a damn raccoon busted not only the main water pipe under the bathroom but in the process busted some sort of gas pipe and it leaked into my uncle's bedroom which is right off the kitchen. My grandmother's room is down a hall past the kitchen so it took longer to get to her.
Now here is the real kicker.
My grandmother has been wheelchair bond for the past 30 years before this happen. She never could take more than 5 steps and that is if she holds on to something. Yet SOMEHOW she got out of bed walked to the kitchen put her arms OVER HER HEAD a thing she hasn't been able to do in God knows how long AND THAN knock a detector that was NAILED to the wall 10 feet up and she only 5'3 than walk to my uncle's room and next to the phone in the kitchen remember to call 911 in emergency ( also the woman had althymers and dementia) than wait in the front yard standing for help!!!!
Guess what her answer was for how she did it!
She said her husband my grandfather who passed away 10+ yrs before this happen told her in her dream to wake up and go get their son to make that beeping sound stop.
Yeah my dead grandfather told her to try to make my uncle make the sound stop. More than likely because he knew if she couldn't wake him she do whatever she could to get help. We asked what if you couldn't call for help she said well Sam (my grandfather) said if you have to go next door the neighbors will help.
So we are all convinced my grandmother was told by my grandfather to get help.
