A wheel and tire for a modern car is often worth $500+, making it economically questionable to paying the ticket you will still have to pay. The ticket can also be garnished from your tax returns or other payouts. As long as you owe the ticket- your car can be booted again, meaning you might run out of spare wheels and tires quickly. Many boots have GPS, so if you throw the wheel and tire with boot in the car to keep it, you can possibly be tracked. Taking off or subverting a boot is in itself a crime and usually carries steep fines and possible prison time. Stealing a boot is a superstar crime and penalty from subverting a boot.

If your car is booted- not only is the car “flagged” as such, but the location is, and it is likely a traffic officer will check up on it. When your car isn’t there that will cause a problem. If your car is encountered driving around that will likely pose a problem. Many newer boots are also designed so that you annoy remove the wheel at all, or so that they attach in a way that makes it so removing the wheel doesn’t defeat the boot. Many municipalities don’t bother with more advanced boots simply because they aren’t worried about you removing the boot since you have an almost 100% chance of getting caught. Even if you immediately pay the ticket, they send someone to remove and recover the boot. At that point if you don’t return the car to the spot it was in, and put the tire and not back on, the game is up. Just some fun boot facts.
