They basically already are. Relatively. To the old people playing Rummy and watching Andy Griffith- those were similar cultural touchstones. That out of touch person who thinks they’re cool? Yeah. That’s what we are taking about in this scenario. “I’m playing the video games and watching this hip show!” Well... no. You’re watching that outdated and no longer as relatable or relevant show that robbed of cultural contexts may still be amusing but lacks the same impact, while playing a rudimentary form of parlor game. The “elevator music” played in many old folks homes was once chart toppers- it’s like the “greatest hits” of the BC era basically. It’s cyclical - An old person playing the ukulele was a trope of lame oldness- but the ukulele is “cool” in certain circles again so the grandkids might actually come try and learn and show off “cool grandpa” to their friends. But -by default most elderly people enjoy things dated to their times which to younger folks are just old news.
