That’s not exactly how it went. It wasn’t a specific failure to the people but the fact that he just thought someone else would do a better job. He also didn’t tell her that to her face (although doing so would have been quite stupid...) he never approached her and said: “Gee, you can be unstable and proud and arrogant and more concerned with power than right. I think this person has a better claim to the throne and would make a better ruler...” he literally did conspire behind her back- wether he was justified to do so or not- but more than anything I think it’s a symptom of the rushed writing in this last season that didn’t let us get a proper arc in the current direction.
I'm bloody well complaining. That was the most bullshit bullshit in the history of bullshit. Tyrion was stupid, Daenerys was bloodthirsty, Jon was a spineless coward. Varys was executed for being the only person to remain in character it seems
Honestly, no. He didn’t tell her she was failing the people. He went behind her back, as he swore not to do, and she killed him, as she swore she would do it he went behind her back. So, as much as I hate to say it, she was merely following through on her promises.
Still disappointed that she went batshit crazy, but also disappointed that Varys didn’t confront her the way he promised to. Might have been a different result if he had.
Everyone is angry but honestly, I think it'd end up this way either way.
And as if she would listen to him or anyone! She wants the throne and she would do anything to get it.
It's the "you're with me or against me" kind of thinking and those people are crazy.
