Bravery and stupidity are easily confused by the casual observer true. The first general differentiation is that a brave person is aware of the risk, understands the risk or its nature, and can conceptualize the risk.
The second is that the person cares about the potential consequences, cares about them self, and is willing to take the calculated risk.
Bravery is not ignorance or stupidity. It isn’t apathy or callousness. To be brave a person must be effected and aware. Any fool can endanger themselves. Anyone naive, ignorant, or convinced of destiny can be blind to consequence. Anyone who feels they have nothing to lose can take risk freely without fear. Anyone who doesn’t care or feel fear can do as they please. Bravery means to overcome that which holds you back through character.
Bravery is a choice. It’s a decision, not a reaction. Bravery is not an action of impulse or reflex, for moments of impulse or reflex we simply do either what our bodies would by nature, or what training and experience have instilled. Bravery is a decision we make to an ends.
