It is dumb, not because of who they hired, but because Disney did it to cause controversy that would raise publicity so that people will watch a movie that really has no business to be remade into live action anyway. Aladdin, Cinderella, Snow White, none of these proved to have the same magical wonder as the original cartoons that animators spent years working on. All were ruined by cruddy CGI and who Disney considers a box office draw at the moment. The only exception being the Lion King, because no one "big name" appears onscreen, just an entire group of talented individuals working together behind the scenes like a Broadway show.
Okay but I thought we established by now that these movies are made to keep the rights to the animated ones, not because there is an actual demand for live action
While still not a very good movie, the Dumbo remake was decent. I cried... but that's because I get hyper-emotional when I drink and smoke pot at the same time.... which is what I did while watching. <_>
The jungle book remake was pretty good but that was solely based on Bill Murray’s performance.

I don’t like that Disney’s trying to make more diversity in their movies, because they’re racebending established characters with an iconic look, instead of creating more P.C. princesses, or focusing on their P.C. princesses
I don't care that she's black. It's dumb that people are making a big deal about it either way. Because if this movie follows the foot steps of virtually all the other remakes, it's going to suck for entirely different reasons
I don't care that she's black, it's a remake or a reimagining in my mind not a shot for shot remaster. I would hope that when they do auditions they are basing their choice on who captures the spirit of the character best. Think of it this way, what if you grew up loving and idolizing a certain character and wanted to be like that character but then you become an actor/actress and are turned down for the role because you are the wrong skin color. Is that really fair if you otherwise can capture the characters personality and have a passion that others might not for the role?
You're right bruh
