Well- the world isn’t dying because of climate change- people will die, plants, animals- but the world and life will continue. I would have found this more meaningful as a commentary on resource equity- I mean it is essentially a realistic representation of a ton of things- literally food where the US consumes and wastes much more than needed while others do without. But here’s where there’s a major issue with using this for climate change lies- in context to climate change it simply doesn’t work because in a redistribution of resources the net climate change impact is very minor if any- just who gets the benefit changes.

That is to say- if my rich neighbor drives a massive diesel truck and I condemn them for their excess- but it’s simply because I can’t afford one myself or don’t like trucks- and I turn around and get money to afford one and do the same or get a sports car.... well- the question when we protest the behavior of others is wether we would do the same thing if we could. When the British were the most powerful empire on earth- they weren’t too concerned with what they could give up for the greater good were they?

Can’t change history of course- only the future- but it isn’t the same argument to say that people should do better for the earth as it is to say that we wish we were the ones benefitting from its destruction is it?
