My dog only barks when people are active in front of our house. He jumped out a second floor window to try and find us one time because the fireworks were scaring him so bad
My dog is fine with them but our cat Marshie has Social Anxiety and when it there is fireworks going off near us he hides the whole day. One year he didn't come out till 2 days later. All thanks to the bastards next door shooting the rest their fireworks the next day as well. I just placed a pee mat under him and put a bowl of food and water beside him.
Than made it dark and tried to make it sound proof by placing pillows around his hidding spot under my daughters bed. He did show a kind of thank you by licking my hand as I placed the mat under him and purring a bit after I placed the pillows.
Boogie my Mentally challenged cat wasnt that bad she did the little duck what the fuck was that look but that was it.
I may sound like an asshole (or maybe I really am! Who knows? Who cares!)
I don't think people should have to stop having fireworks bc some other's dogs are afraid of it. Animals tend to get scared by loud noises all the times, not just fireworks.
My dog doesn't give a damn over fireworks, my kitten was afraid of thunder but after a while, he knows it doesn't hurt him and he also got used to it.
I know you want to protect your pets but you have zero right to stop people from having fun (let admit it, most of us live fireworks, they're gorgeous to look at)
Instead of placing this out which is useless, do something by yourself, I see people making their pets wear soundproof headphone which actually works.
Unpopular opinion- I love dogs. I think it’s courteous to be aware of people’s animals and think of their emotional and other well being. That said... Fireworks are a thing. In America- you KNOW 4th of July WILL involve fireworks. Even most small towns have a large display that can be seen and heard through most of the town. YOU have an animal. YOU signed on to care for and protect it. YOU agreed to the expense and sacrifices that proper care for an animal requires. If someone else doesn’t have an animal- it’s likely because they wouldn’t or couldn’t agree to that. So YOUR animal, YOUR human baby- whatever- YOUR responsibility. If you know it’s the 4th and the fireworks are coming- board your dog somewhere. Have someone watch it in a remote location. Take a mini vacation and get a pet friendly hotel or house rental far from fireworks. Provide a sound proof space or animal ear protection...
... do what YOU have to do to take care of YOUR responsibility to the animal YOU chose to live with. Your neighbor didn’t choose to live with an animal. They decided they’d rather buy fireworks than pet food and vet visits and now they’re going to enjoy their fireworks. My only asterisks are: If you’re setting off fireworks in your neighborhood on a Tuesday night because you feel like it- that’s some asshole behavior. If you are going out of your way to be a dick about it, fireworks are illegal in your area, etc. that’s asshole behavior. But if you’re celebrating a holiday known for fireworks with fireworks legally- that’s legit. Maybe if you know your neighbors have pets just let them know as far in advance as possible “I’m setting off fireworks this year on this day- I wanted you to know so you can be ready and take care of your animals/baby, etc.” If they know it’s coming- what precautions they take are up to them.
Im not giving up fucking fireworks on our goddamned "fuck the british" day just because some stupid animals are scared of loud noises. They'll fucking live.
It is absolutely an animal owner's responsibility to care for their pets. The world does not stop revolving because the neighbors have a frightened pet. Plan accordingly.
