Wasn't there a shop owner of some sort who refused to provide some service to a gay couple and as a result the gay couple launched a campaign to harass the person to the point they committed suicide?
'
Either way - being an asshole is a human thing, not a hetero thing
I’m unable to find any mention of a suicide caused under such circumstances- but that doesn’t mean it never happened, and I only spent about 15 minutes looking and it’s a big world. I found 3 cases where bakeries refusing gay customers were put out of business afterwards due to loss of business and/or vendors refusing to service them. That I can’t fault since a common argument I see from people who think it should be legal to discriminate is that people should decide for themselves and it’s up to the shop owners if they want to lose the business from not doing gay weddings. I for one wouldn’t shop at any business that I knew refused to serve LGBTQ+ people as whatever their belief- mine is that I don’t support bigots.
That said- some of these people do receive harassment, personal insults, threats, and ill wishes that they or their children suffer or die. That’s not ok and that IS an asshole behavior. Refuse to do business with them, speak honestly on your feelings of it comes up, maybe even write them a respectful letter if you must. But threats and harassment aren’t tools anyone should use- and gay people can be assholes. Huge assholes- and while it doesn’t seem to happen as often I didn’t find one story of a gay business owner throwing out straight Christians- not for being straight- they were anti abortionists but the owner seemed fixated on the assumption they were not pro LGBTQ+, wether that is true or not isn’t in the story and I didn’t care to look. But it has happened at least once.
^ I'm just not even going to touch on how fucked up that statement is, especially with how little context has been provided.

But @guest_ yeah, I tried to look for it, but I heard about it a few years ago and I literally can't remember any of the other details about it. Either way, as we said - being an asshole isn't a sexuality issue. It's a human issue. You'll find them in every walk of life
@guest_ you can call people bigots all you want but it is only your belief that they are as such that has any standing. There is no universal truth for anything outside of religion. I assure you it is you who is the bigot and not the person standing up for their religous beliefs. You and others like you prance around as if your word is the holy gospel itself while bashing those who do the same on the basis of religious belief. And another thing, if God is real and what is written in the bible is true, then your belief(and mine for that matter) of what is right and wrong is utterly worthless. If God isnt real then again your beliefs are still only opinion. You should take a step off your horse and realize your opinion is just that, an opinion and not universal fact. This will probably be down voted to hell but I feel if I don't say it no one will. Also it should be noted I'm not exactly religous but can't stand when people are attacked for their beliefs.
You probably don’t want people forcing you to be Muslim or Jewish or Mormon or Satanist. Those people- also do not want to be forced to be what they do not choose. In a world where people are to have a choice- by default that doesn’t allow the inclusion of any system which seeks to remove the choice of another. Ive said it before and I’ll say it again. And again. The paradox of inclusion and freedom is that by its nature it is against bigotry and bias- so an “inclusive” society is one which cannot tolerate those who would exclude others.
Now- ironically- you tell me to get off my high horse and not try to dictate the behavior of others. Isn’t that exactly what I said? That people who think they have the moral authority shouldn’t try and force those morals on others? Now- in society we need laws and rules so people can live. So if we all have to be ruled by one law- and everyone is different- than the only law that can rule everyone and allow them their differences is one which accommodates differences isn’t it? Most Christians wouldn’t much care for being required to renounce Jesus in order to get food would they? So why would someone else like to be given a choice to give up who they are for basic things?
Now- it is my view that God most certainly is real. But let’s entertain the idea god may not be. If god is not real- all we have is this earth. Our life. We could choose either to live in a brutal world where the strong take all they can while they live and do as they please and their strength allows- or we can live in a world where the most people have a chance to realize happiness by trying to be kind and not stop other people from living their lives.
Ok. So now we examine a world with God. In this world- your life is a blink of a cosmic eye. Your afterlife is eternal. In a world where we all agree god is real- it would be very ill advised to not make God the vented of your life. But in this world- you have sinned against god. You WILL do it again. That’s literally what Jesus is. Jesus does for the sins of all mankind- every person on earth- because 2000+ years ago the all knowing god who’s seen until the end of time looked at your life and said- “yup. Guest is gonna sin.”
But basically EVERY Christian denomination holds god will forgive your sins of you repent. Virtually all abrahamic religions concede that if you are forced to sin by law or other coercion that it’s not the same as willfully sinning. The Bible says- VERY CLEARLY- all authority on earth is derived from heaven. That EVERY power on earth is out there by god as part of gods plan for this world. That EVERY person is to obey the laws put upon them by their rulers, that violating these laws is a sin. And fun fact? The Bible never ranks sin. Every single one is just as bad as any other- except a couple which are implied to be particularly disliked.
Using “god” as a swear like “god Becky,” or “god- uhg. I dropped my phone...” etc? A sin the same as cheating on a spouse. But the Bible- doesn’t matter even in religion. No one follows it 100% to the letter. People CHOOSE what they follow and what they don’t. From saying divorce is ok, not stoning people or cutting off hands, not observing certain days or holy rights and so on. And one of these bakers for instance that refused to serve gays?
They were called on different occasions by a reporter getting fake quotes for things like a stem cell research lab, and abortion clinic, a divorce, and a few others. And they gave quotes and were willing to do ALL of them. So it is NOT Christianity which prevents them from doing gay weddings. It is THEIR PERSONAL INTERPRETATION of Christianity. Because while it surprised many- not all religious people agree on all issues. The Christians and Jews have many of the same holy books and agree on many of the stories and details of them- with several key differences and a shit ton of little ones on how things are interpreted.
Everyone on earth has their own religion. There are no two people who see every passage the same and interpret every rule the same and feel all the same things have the same weight upon their immortal soul. That’s fine. Religion is a personal thing. But- me personally? I am opposed on the deepest level to cruise lines. I find them evil to the core. Won’t set foot on one. You? Go on a cruise. I’m not going to judge you. Because...
... say it with me now.... in a world with God it isn’t my place to judge you. All will be judged when they leave earth and their sins will be paid then. I am not so conceited that I would presume to know the wishes of God so intimately. That in the book given to man on what God likes it is not written even once that one cannot be gay. One has to think it can’t be that important if it didn’t even make the book but divorce is mentioned over... and over... as are many other things- just not that one. The closest we get is some jive about “sodomy-“ which contrary to popular belief didn’t mean ass sex in antiquity.
God takes care of the hereafter in a world with God. The right now, where people live and breath and don’t believe in God and don’t want to? They have a right to live too. Because if they ARE mortal sinners- things after this life aren’t gonna be too good for them are they? So might as well let them enjoy it if either way they’re gonna pay for it no?
I don’t know what’s right. I am not a prophet. I do not speak for God. The last true prophet of Christianity died 2000+ years ago and said he’d come back to collect the bill. But you don’t know what’s right either unless you claim to be a prophet of God speaking for God? No one can speak for God, not Billy Graham and not some corn shucker in the middle of nowhere. So since none of us can point to a damn signed note from God with the words “If you bake a gay cake you’ll go to hell...” then wether god exists or not- bake the fucking cake or get into a business model where you aren’t open to the public because the laws of these United States say that you WILL NOT discriminate on protected class including sexual orientation. That you will not refuse to provide goods and services to people based on these things like religion which are part of who they are. If you serve the public- you serve all people equally.
If you don’t want to do that- don’t work. Man cannot live on bread alone- let the lord take your burden. As a good and noble person who has followed the commandments of god so well in refusing to be a neighbor to his other children he created- surely he will see you through without the need to operate a small business. Surely if he does not and you starve- a glorious and eternal afterlife await you. So see? You can’t lose.
You do realize there are religions that have things like human sacrifice right? We don’t let them do their stupid shit either because... they aren’t the only people on earth and letting people do shit that harms society goes beyond the bounds of the freedoms you are afforded. Society wouldn’t exist if we allowed that would it?
Simply saying something is part of your religion so you can do whatever you want the law and all else be damned doesn’t work. And one more time- it literally, never, even once, says baking a cake for gays is a sin in the Bible. So whatever religion that is isn’t Christianity but some faction- and to qualify itself as a religion you have to have a minimum number of folks and have the government say you’re a religion. That’s why 5 guys drinking beer can’t call that a church.
So if you want to get REAL technical we could argue that isn’t even protected under freedom of religion or protected class because MORAL BELIEFS aren’t protected- only RELIGION. But hey- it’s whatever. You can believe whatever you want to. But in society- a few democratic society of commerce- we all have to have a place regardless of the books we read or god(s) we pray or not pray to.
Assholes do asshole things bc they're assholes.
Not bc they're straight or gay.
And feel down, we all know we have acted like a dick from time to time so fuck off
