I don't know if this is a joke or not, but here goes; dialling is when you enter the number that you want to call.

I just think it's funny people still say dial when there hasn't been a phone with a dial for 50 years.

Well, 50 is a bit much, but I find it funny we still call the devices we carry phones since making phone calls is the least interesting thing they do.
