I don’t know- there aren’t too many types of work I haven’t done across all sorts of sectors and all of them, at the end of the day- were pretty easy. Some were more stressful, others more physically demanding. Some were emotionally exhausting, others- dealing with the mind numbing boredom was on par to me with jobs I’ve taken that carried significant risk or danger but didn’t make me afraid of death from boredom. Some I liked more than others- the perks, pay, or they just suited my personality better. At the end of the day there aren’t too many jobs I can’t say “I’ve done that...” or at least something similar- and you know what over found?

I’ve found that often the jobs people find “easy” or “difficult” are just jobs. A job one person struggles with in one way or another- maybe hates- is one another will run circles around them in and fail to understand what is so hard about something that is so simple to them- and one of the biggest factors that influences that is who we are. Our experience, intelligence, aptitudes, physical conditioning and how we process things.

In short- what is hard for one is easy for another. One of the “hardest” jobs for me to do that I ever had was working a gas station. Stand there 12 hours and occasionally count change or write down stock amounts? I can’t recall ever having more trouble not walking out on a job- and indeed I did one day. Just quit. It is so simple- you don’t even need to know math. Push a few buttons, use a calculator to count. But to me? It was brutal.

In the end I make what I make and am able to do what I do because not everyone can or wants to. If everyone did what I do- who would pick up the trash or arrest criminals or care for the sick? I certain have complaints about my job- why wouldn’t they have complaints about theirs? Is it harder to wake up every morning at butt crack ocklock to deliver papers or take in the trash, or to climb utility poles at midday to keep the lights on, to deal with the “lunch rush” or to be responsible for the jobs of tens of thousands of people from your cushy office?

I guess it depends on who you are. I just know that there are jobs I can’t do or don’t want to do- I’d complain if I had to. So I can’t fault others for it. Best case scenario they’re working on a way out and not just complaining- but either way I can’t say their complaints aren’t legitimate unless o know them very well.
