Yeah- I see more tragedy than controversy on that one. If it’s just a handful of people and they aren’t detained there might be outrage- especially if they’re kids. But if a mass mob showed up to storm a government installation I’d anticipate the use of crowd control agents and if that failed deadly force- and I do t think too many people could argue that the military should let huge mobs of people into restricted areas if they just showed up “for lulz.” Or hell- video games would probably get blamed.
there's a video of a seasoned lawyer on youtube covering his predictions of what would happen if they raided area 51 and at one point he quoted an air force friend of his as saying basically "none of them would be flooding the hospitals because they would all be dead"
Well- the military and many in it are known for “tough talk.” While that talk is quite often not simply idle with no intent or ability to carry it out- usually, especially where the chain of command and officers who are foremost career politicians get involved it tends to temper down to a response more appropriate to the political climate. Area 51 is a secure facility and a military installation and deadly force could be used- but my gut and experience tells me that with something this prominent the military administration isn’t looking to- and likely has made it clear- create a potential PR backlash.
If we were killing them, maybe the problem would be reduced to a manageable level. Why is the US the only country that can help? Why are we the only ones not allowed to have our own borders? Our own country?
Eh, border, military base, whateve
