Sometimes I'll hear dispatchers on crime shows and they blow my mind.
A lot of them are old so I know they've had updates to protocol since then, but I'll hear a dispatcher constantly just asking "What's wrong?" or saying "Calm down" like dude, there's a woman screaming in fear over the phone. Get an address and get a fucking cop to this person would you?
As much as I understand what you’re saying I don’t agree with you. As a dispatcher there are protocols and they do state to ask for address first but after that the one question you ask is “tell me exactly what happened” this is for officer information and safety, it does not in anyway prevent or delay officers response and will actually help them because they know what they are responding to. Almost everyone calls in yelling on 911... over little things like someone said their kid was a shit, sometimes the only way you can get answers is if you do tell that person to calm down and take a breath.
Sadly, they can't save everybody. It needs money to investigate every case, money they don't have. I'm not saying it's normal and should stay like this, hell no, but it's important that they're taking more things into consideration and there's no need to attack them. It's more important to push the government into taking action to properly fund the police forces.
Harassment and bullying lead to greater problems, so I think it's wise to try and cut the problem at the root.
But I just noticed I assumed the brother's death occured years before the police's announcement, however it's not specified anywhere (my bad!). So if they're choosing anti-bullying over immediate risks of death, yes, this is stupid as fuck.
Bullying is not a law-enforcement concern. If it ain't actual harrassment, then people should sort themselves out. I don't need or want the local Sheriff to be my nanny.
I'm glad that they're taking at least one thing serious. Transphobia is an issue, but not for the majority of the population.
.
They won't investigate domestic violence if there's even a minute chance that one of them will get hurt. Pretty sure they're all cowards.
