The possibly nerdy point I was making is that the primordial stuff that came out of the Big Bang contained very little metal, other than a bit of lithium. In fact not much of anything other than hydrogen and helium. The material that the solar system formed from had already been processed through forming a star, and then blowing out when the star went nova, at least once. So all the metal on Earth formed inside a star.
