I have friends but it's like we're bad actors giving life to a sad joke, as we are only friends because we spend several hours a day together but not because we share anything other than our time. We pretend not to notice.

The only thing holding my eight year friendship together is pot and it's honestly exhausting. We have nothing in common anymore, I play pc and he only plays fortnite on console, his and my music are nowhere similar but it's the only friend I have to talk to so I put up with it.
Tough pill to swallow, but find new friends or learn to be okay without them. I spent the better part of 2 decades trying to be friends with someone, and it worked when they needed someone...not so much when they didn't. I broke ties 3 years ago and haven't looked back. Cutting bad people out of your life is liberating, and it opens up opportunities to meet better people. The less time you spend chasing the past, the more time you can spend exploring the future.

Well, this is a tough one. Straight up telling people that you don't want to be their friend because of reasons can seriously backfire. But slowly start distancing yourself from them. Stop being the one to initiate everything but don't turn people away if they call you first.
But at the end of the day you have to realize that the only person's happiness that you are responsible for is you.
