We don't know enough to make sense out of this. Having PTSD from online harrassment only tells us that she must have been pretty fragile from the start, that's all. What are the words at the bottom? Are they claims otherwise supported by quotes not pictured here? Or is it some huge extrapolation based on the quotation? Without any further sources I have to call bs on this post.
im a rather uneducated person when it comes to mental illness that doesnt directly involve me so i did a quick google on ptsd.
"ptsd is a mental disorder that can develop after a person is exposed to a traumatic event, such as sexual assault, warfare, traffic collisions, or other threats on a person's life."
imaging classifying yourself reading comments on the internet is at the same level as someone getting assaulted.
While I do find people “overly sensitive” sometimes- I have to catch myself and remember that everyone has their own breaking point. Not so long ago in history, Hell, even today- people have to deal with some messed up stuff. A close family member could die or you could suffer some crazy brutality and just have to go to work or go on about your day. In many countries war has been a reality of civilian life- people just minding their own business not knowing if they were going to die or be mutilated horribly, not knowing if loved ones were ok, seeing their families killed or raped and having to keep on to survive themselves. Then you have people in stable countries who take time off work because their dog died. One of my exes grandmothers owned a farm during the Japanese occupation of China.
Her land was seized, her husband was jailed, and she had to eat her dogs to not starve, and keep moving and surviving while not knowing if her husband had been tortured to death. Then you’ve got people who say it’s traumatic they got in a car accident or lost a job or their house. Does it seem fair to claim the same trauma at being in a fender bender while driving a futuristic safety tank to undergoing military occupation and near starvation? I dunnoh. But- I do know we can’t really compare suffering. Someone always has it worse. You don’t have to be in serious danger to FEEL your life was at risk. I knew a kid who had 10+ years of therapy because they “almost drowned” at a pool party.
If we stop and think- what are the chances they’d actually drown? They were saved so in hindsight slim for them. I think the lesson is that while other people may seek to be “weak minded” or what not to us- to them their trauma is real. I don’t think self diagnosed PTSD without a medical diagnosis is necessarily something people should claim- if a professional has diagnosed you, you can’t be much more legitimate than that regardless of the causes.
I mean hell, people get life long trauma from things like birthday clowns or watching a movie. So like- who am I to say of a trauma is legitimate or not?
