I'm so confused. Doesn't the animal's DNA define the gender? I mean it could be male of female and straight or gay. But doesn't the DNA define an initial gender?
Well your dna would define your sex yes but gender is different, I'm not sure how it works in other animals but maybe this penguin (who is either male or female) doesn't behave in either mannerisms that you would observe in a female/male penguin. The penguins themselves I'm sure don't really care
OK so DNA might define sex but not gender.
So that's Hetero, Homo, Bi, Trans. But we can't know if any of this group is gender specific.
So why do all animals have 2 genders?
*Paleantologists looking at 1000 year of fossils*: lol, this trilobite is gay
No but seriously I'm confused as to what you're asking, you can't look at a skeleton of something and know it's sexual orientation as that's a neurochemical thing. Animals can't be transgender as we can't ask a female animal "do you feel like a boy?" as we won't get an answer. We can have intersex animals though, as that's genetics and observable. In general though I don't really know what answer you're looking for.
Uhm let me make this short
sexuality ≠ gender ≠ sex
@this_isntme what you were describing is sexuality. Let me help you, and let's take me as an example:
Sexuality: bisexual
Gender: female, because I'm fine with the body I live in
Sex: female (chromosomes, vajayjay, you name it)
So that's Hetero, Homo, Bi, Trans. But we can't know if any of this group is gender specific.
