Libraries are awesome. They aren’t just books either. They often have computers, DVD’s and digital media, seminars and training and talks and lectures, help with things like resumes, etc. etc. But... one of the last places you aren’t expected to spend money...? Not really. Maybe in certain areas.

Many if not most national, state, and regional parks are free with rare exceptions and things like parking or camping costs. Trails, public beaches, rest stops, a whole host of places. And then there’s... sidewalks. Which are a great big amount of space in most places. Those are public and free, great for bird watching and sight seeing and walks or runs etc. so libraries are great, important, more than just books. Certainly NOT one of the last places you aren’t expected to spend money.

Actually I can’t let this go that easily. Really guy? Where the hell did you get that idea? Compared to what? Businesses? When in the last 50+ years did for profit businesses just let people “chill” for free without some expectation they be a customer or perspective customer? Those are private properties open to the public. By he way- here many museums and zoos are free to residents too, and many I’ve been to elsewhere don’t charge they just ask for a donation if you can. So what does that even mean “public place where you aren’t expected to spend money...”? Dude. Come on.

What spaces like that existed before that don't exist now?
