I camped in the Cascades (off route 2 in Washington) a few years ago. It was gorgeous, but very cold at night! Also, I think around 2 A.M. or so, we (my friend I was with) had a visitor. He stayed asleep, but I heard leaves rustling and saw a shadows fall over the tent. The shadow lowered, and then I heard something that terrified me: deep purring. See, a cougar decided to just hang out by us. Cougars are the largest breed of cat that can still purr (larger breeds growl). We didn’t have food out or anything, it just wanted to chill. I sat there for 2 hours focusing on my breathing so I wouldn’t startle it. Every time my friend stirred I just thought, “YOU STOP MOVING, YOU DUMB BASTARD!” It was honestly one of the coolest experiences of my life.
These aren't the Cascades as in the mountains (I would LOVE to go and camp there!!! Luuucky)... It's just a waterfall in Yellowstone named that lol
As for the cougar, If you started making a ruckus suddenly, surprising it, it would have bolted... so at least you had that ace up your sleeve. :)
Ohhhhh the other Cascades lol gotcha. And yeah, I suppose I could have done that...I just knew that if it wanted to, it could slash through my tent with one paw.
