Wasn’t just one season (bad pussy). They did build up to this and because D&D wanted to be done with the show they rushed through the final season for no real reason
I don’t know, I think what bothers most people is the fact they can’t take their minds off all the plot threads that the older seasons set up get a bad payoff, so the excitement is ruined. Especially with the character focus so everyone had a favorite.
The one about Azula isnt 100% accurate. Azula was under the impression that her own mother thought of her as a monster and feared and that caused her to leave. To overcome her grief, she became obsessed with becoming perfect. She believed that if she was perfect, then at least her father will love her. But Ozai abused Azula and warped her mind into completely believing his outrageous ideals.
Her decent into madness really showed itself when Mei and Ty Lee betrayed her. Mei said "I love Zuko more than I fear you" to which Azula counters with "No, you miscalculated. You should have feared me more".
After this point, Azula started to unhinge. When she was getting ready to be crowned as Fire Lord, she managed to banish damn near everyone in the palace for petty reasons, fearing that they will all ultimately betray her like her friends did.
I could continue to add points on why Azula is an amazing ficking character, but I dont have enough space to do so
I don't think many things could stand against ATLA tbh. It's such a wonderfully written, well researched, thought out, and constructed show. Every character has some importance and deeper story. It's a world described by a tale as opposed to the other way around.
But I feel my bias is evident, given my name and all that.
