Yeah. Those merit based scholarships for people who possess some special skill or talent that a school and potentially society can benefit from are really messed up. It’s like you have to do more than show up and want to succeed to succeed. Almost as if you have to try harder. Trying is difficult. So I can see where this would be upsetting.

In all seriousness- there is a lot of fair debate over wether certain scholarships are legitimately in the interest of society in any sense other than that of blind earning of cash. A tuba player for instance IS an artist- but it’s very likely they would be given a scholarship based on support of sports teams which is arguably not in the benefit of social interests beyond cash. So I get that aspect. But the basic observation is in essence that it stinks that people with abilities beyond the norm are given scholarships.
