My worst sunburn occurred when I was 5...(I can literally feel this burn as I'm writing this... ugh... strike a nerve much?) I was living about 40 miles out of ATL... my neighbors bought an inflatable pool. It was 97F outside, around 85% humidity, no cloud cover. I played in that thing for about 8 straight hours without sunscreen. I'm 99% sure I already have Melanoma that has yet to metastasize. My back got so fucked I couldn't let it touch ANYTHING. Layers of skin were scabbed over that created little dry skin plateau; you could peel the skin in the valleys off with a feather. There was SO much oil... it was the lipids in my fat layer boiling through my skin. Blisters everywhere. My back was the Yellowstone caldera 15 minutes before eruption. The red from that burn lasted months (the effects are in the decades, obviously, as I'm 99% sure I have Melanoma). I still don't use sunscreen... I just don't swim when the water refracts in such a way it becomes a UV oven.
