When I was a little kid my mom called my grandfather dad until I started to do the same. She went with a different pronunciation of Pawpaw (what she called her grandfather), pronouncing it like paw-paw instead of pap-pawl.

When my nephew was younger, he started to call my mom "Gigum" instead of Grandma I guess, but she said no, he'll grow out of it and my sister and I both said uh yeah okay good luck. Now that he's 8, she's of course still Gigum.
