I think the difference is MLK is addressing apathy, while LeBron is addressing burnout. For this first time in history we have constant access to the scope of Injustice everywhere. We see it in all corners all the time. To feel like we personally have to fix it all is exhausting and impossible. Sometimes you just have to pick one thing and make a difference there

Very well said, and largely accurate. Where I might slightly diverge is in nuance. MLK was primarily a champion of civil rights, with a strong focus on the African American community. That doesn’t mean that he never cared about or did anything else- but that was his “big” fight and focus. If he’d split his time between 50 issues he likely couldn’t have done what he did. So I think MLK’s message wasn’t to fight a war against injustice on every front- it was that we each could fight the injustice which we see around us- that speaks to us as most dire in our communities or countries. Caesar Chavez, MLK, Gandhi, Nelson Mandela, etc- each fought injustice on different fronts. They weren’t blind or cold to others suffering but knew they needed to focus on a goal to see it done.
