I don’t know why, but people writing poems about how kind they are really puts me off like I’m sure you’re great and all but it comes off quite narcissistic
It should seem like that if the person is speaking to you directly but poetry is an expression. People also write poems about fairies and kings and what not but it is just a form of expression. It does not necessarily mean that they are what they write. You can always differ though and I respect your opinion.
Ah yes but fairies and Kings don’t really fall in the same category as complimenting yourself does it? I feel like someone that’s truly kind wouldn’t acknowledge it by himself and it would be the sort of thing someone else would see in him. Like imagine if someone donated food to the homeless and how you’d see them if they never made it a big deal versus if they wrote a public announcement about how generous they are? It comes off as a lot less genuine then doesn’t it? Especially cause he COULD'VE written the poem in reverse so that the person speaking to him was the one to say the verse from which I assume he wanted to evoke a thought or feeling in people. Serves the same purpose without being as off putting I think. But poetry is art and to each his own
That could have been a possibility indeed and also I think the same that boasting and doing is not doing at all. Your opinion is right but I might still say that there could be a slight possibility that the author just used imagery here. You should read her book once. It is amazing.
