Ugh yeah I hate it when it looks like my fave cut but the top part is ever so slightly shorter.

When people “like a haircut” they usually mean “on this person.” Many Guys for example might like a shaved head look for themselves but not think it looks as good on their girlfriend. Often times for various abstract and or subjective reasons we think a haircut doesn’t suit a persons face. Likewise some hair styles and some facial features evoke certain psychological responses. Mixing and matching them- a “young” face might be balanced by a more “mature” cut or to some it might look “wrong” and “mismatched.” That’s the nature of style- the combination of things that create an image to an outward observer, and who or how many people find that image compelling or attractive.

We know that just looking at people’s faces, based on shapes and features- often subconsciously gives us impressions. “They look:” “mysterious” “dangerous” “mean” “funny” “kind” “messy” “smart” “dumb” “tough” etc. we also know that hair styles often have similar effects and can often have extra social leaning too depending on time and place. Long hair on men is often a symbol of counter culture, it’s often symbolic of a person who is laid back or doesn’t have to care about meeting professional norms. We sort of subconsciously pick at clues to figure out an idea of who they are as a person- is it a conscious choice and lots of effort- or a lack of care in self grooming?

Did they spend 15 minutes lining up stubble to look “rugged” or did they just not shave? Are they an artist or some other skilled professional who has the freedom to look how they choose while working a decent job, or are they unemployed or so underemployed that they don’t need to worry about being groomed because no one cares enough about them (including themselves) for it to matter? And then it’s just preference. Chris Helmsworth is Thor with long or short hair- but different people will find him more or less attractive by which he has at any moment.

Why yes of course, different hairstyles go with different face types. I think first guy would look nicer if his hair was more neat if he wants to keep it long. Perhaps a side part that flows back behind his ear. The thing is that attractive guys can get away with less thought about their appearance but anyone can look flattering.
