Minimum wage here is $12.00 and many fast food and mall jobs offer $15.00-22.00 an hour- and people on those jobs are still broke- still can’t afford things like rent. How much you pay is only part of the equation. The earnings haven’t gone up and that’s atrocious- but look at the price increases on common goods and you’ll see those have increased far out of proportion to how much earnings should have increased. Property costs and rents have skyrocketed as well. Without anything to index wages to, and without any control on inflation save the existing mechanisms that have so obviously failed miserably- it’s a short sighted way of looking at the problem.
