And that’s fine. I don’t know where or why people have this idea everyone wants to or should live forever let alone to ripe old age. If you want to fight bears while chain drinking whiskey and smoking cigars, or sit at the beach and soak up enough UV to tan your liver- go for it. It’s your life. If jumping motorbikes over canyons or winning pie eating contests or whatever else is your jam- whatever man. Not everyone wants to see old age if it means giving up what they love. We can warn people of the dangers, we should encourage healthy living- but of you live the life you wanted then who is someone else to say the life you should have lived? Be aware that you may feel differently some day- you might regret it- but what are we gonna do? Force people to live “safe” in case they someday might regret their choices?
I’m not saying no one should try to be healthy or help others be healthy or encourage people to be healthy. I’m a fan of healthy balance and moderation. I’m saying that well- some people aren’t. I rarely if ever drink- it’s not healthy and you aren’t at your best nor have your full control of self. I don’t do recreational drugs. Who am I to tell someone who enjoys pot they shouldn’t? Is it healthier not to? Generally yes. You inform people the risks, they make the choice, if they want help- you try to help, in the end; they are accountable for their choices and the consequences.
Exercise is nice, but I'll keep my red meat, whiskey, and smokes, thank you very much. I'll live in the manner I see fit, and if that kills me at 29 or 92, I ask only for one last smoke, a drink, and something that will allow me to smile one last time unencumbered by pain.
Then Satan had better pray the Valkyries get me first, otherwise Hell doesn't know what's coming!
Reminder this can be a false and inaccurate mentality. Don't get me wrong, diet and exercise can cure some and improve a multitude of aliments. There are reasons however medication exists. You can not cure asthma with exercise, you can improve lung function but you should always carry an inhaler. Olympians have died from asthma. You can't exercise away a peanut allergy, cancer, endometriosis, being bipolar, a broken arm, arthritis, ect. From the chronically ill community, even though its a joke and specifying Americans, while some portion of the world will get ill from choices, please remember compassion first. Also remember half of doctors are the bottom half lol. Be your own patient advocate if you have a health issues.
