i think that other animals just crawled into the wombats burrows, not giving them a choice to share or not. I highly doubt they "observed" a wombat sheperding other animals inside

Considering they're highly territorial I would also say they were kind of forced, still nice to see animals escaping harm somehow

Yeah I read up on this to see how true it was a while back and scientists have not observed wombats (with their limited vision) shepherding animals although small animals have crawled into burrows but not cause of the welcome mat :p
