As of now, the research is conflicted on the effects because it's hard to do a long-term study when it's illegal in many places. So Dr. Phil doesn't really have any idea either.

Actually it's worse. Science has found itsy-bitsy tiny alterations on a cellular level in some neuronal structures in the the brains of (some) teenagers who smoke a lot of pot and conclude that these alterations would need to be amplified by about a thousand times to show any real, meaning visible effects, and mass media, law enforcement and prohibitionists have misrepresented this as "pot causes mental defects and lasting damage to the brains of pubescent users". Dr. Phil has made his entire career widely on misrepresenting science and the scientific method.
