Counter point: What’s... the difference? What are the names of the people who designed and built the actual vehicle? The vehicle did the work- we literally sent dogs and monkeys to space first- so we know that it doesn’t take a crack shot pilot to do the job- just someone to sit in a big piece of technology designed by someone who isn’t the one we remember for the achievement. Would you rather have a pilot on your flight who knows all the names of famous pilots- or who knows how an aircraft works? As far as practical, real world application- knowing the name of the Care Bears has as much value as knowing the names of “pioneers.” We remember them in part out of respect- for their bravery and the conditions they faced to bring us the future we live in.

What I’m saying here isn’t that people like pioneers of exploration aren’t important, or that you shouldn’t remember them. I love aviation and have all sorts of names in my head of pilots who did notable things or were just plain “cool.” I’m saying that while I think we should be well rounded and know a little about a lot at least- speaking on priorities- knowing who used the Rocket is like knowing the star player of a team or the lead guitarist of a band but not the rest of the people who make it happen. That too could be seen as grounds to reevaluate your priorities. Knowing who invented a thing isn’t as important as knowing how it works as far as I’m concerned. If we either had to forget the name of the Wright brothers or forget how airplanes work... I’ll keep the planes thank you.

In conclusion- not knowing the name of a space explorer just says to me you probably aren’t really into space exploration- maybe you aren’t much into science- or at least the science of space and space travel. If you know the name of the Kardashians and you also know how to program advanced autonomous control systems, or to use statistics to solve real problems- any number of great things- your priorities are probably fine.

Is it really necessary to do this to every post?

If you mean every one of my posts- I don’t do it every post. But certainly a large percent. Likely the majority. If you mean every post on the site- I actually don’t do this on that many posts on total. Either way- I tend to comment on posts that I have something to say- and then say what I had to say.

Honestly, I don’t think anyone wants to see three paragraphs of your opinion unless they ask for it

Thank you snowbeast, and thank you famousone. thebrick99- I mean this in earnest and not flippantly- if one doesn’t want to read it- they don’t have to. Not everyone is going to like or appreciate every meme people post either, and sometimes you’ll get reposts. People come here and share. Others take what they want and skip what they don’t.

I’ve gotta ask, you major in English?

No, my major wasn’t English. I enjoy English, and have studied it further than required, but no major in it.

Gotta say, the things I said at first were because I was irritated. Continue doing what you like
