Shelters are a thing, but barriers exist. Shelters are often overcrowded or filled to capacity, and the tightness of the quarters sparks a lot of interpersonal drama, and many of them are sober shelters that bar anybody who might even look under the influence. I used to work at a shelter in New England and the hardest part was getting the folks to buy in to it and actually get there asses there.

Plus the sexual assault rate in shelters - regardless of gender - is sky-high, at least where I live. Other residents and attendants both.

If Qatar, as the richest country in the world, is going to name an area Oregon, can't they at least name it New Oregon?

i like how people. are willing to point out the faults in the country they are in without taking a care to see just how much worse it is in other places in the world. Yes poverty exists. But if i had to be homeless i would choose my country over any other in the world.

That's not the point. It's not a race to the bottom. We shouldn't just ignore the problems here because others have it worse.

It's a childish mentality, to think that if you love America you can never examine our faults.

poverty is an unfortunate reality of life. As long as people exist there will be poverty, NOTHING will end it, because there will ALWAYS be someone who will take advantage

I mean technically life is always going to end in death, but that doesn’t mean we don’t mostly try to avoid it.
