I never watch in anything higher than 480 because it lags too much.

Depending how log ago that was, they may have been kinda correct. A lot of older plans had very low data limits, and watching a lot of HD could result in overage charges.

Let me tell you about a country where still many people have super small data limits, like a couple hundred mb a month. Is it Burkina Faso? Is it rural Somalia? Nope. It's Germany. Now combine shitty bandwidth outside bigger cities with that and you're welcome to one of the richest, most developed countries on this planet.
