The top segment is asking you to not disrespect people entirely because of their identity. The bottom segment is basically saying "Fuck you trans people I don't respect you"
.
Respect is earned through their personality, not on their titles. The top segment is less of "You have to respect" and more of a "Be able to respect", I imagine, but the bottom part is just straight up saying that they will not respect them whatsoever.
I always end up having the problem of people not delineating when they mean respect as “treat like an authority figure” and when they mean respect as “treat like a human being.” The former is earned, the latter is required.
The point at which we start debating who doesn’t have to be treated as human is the point at which we admit no one has human rights. If it’s up for a judgement call, anyone’s rights can be negated with the right argument.
And somebody better freakin’ earn it if they want me to show them deference.
Brother, nobody has anything they can't keep, least of all rights.
Most of modern history, from the Holocaust, Nuremberg Trials, to Vietnam, Panama, to Tiananmen Square, Holodomor, to the PATRIOT Act, Gitmo, Abu Gharib, including every theft, murder, or rape to ever occur is proof of that.
And that list is nowhere near exhaustive.
