Yeah. I don’t know what’s up with Netflix. They also didn’t correctly use the dialectic Romanian for the period. Altered Carbon does this too. In Blade Runner- Edward James Olmos at least had the good intentions of creating his own patois of future dialect. How am I supposed to believe it’s the future when language hasn’t changed to reflect the passage of time? If I ha e to watch one more show set in the past that doesn’t use proper old English or authentic period Gallic... I swear.

It’s almost as if- Netflix and other creators of non hard historical documentary and fiction made for period scholars- are “translating” ideas and language and demographics for the audience of the time and place the show is mean to be seen. To make it easier to understand and more relatable, and to fit the context of that age. Like how historical “heroes” in western period fiction tend to embody present moral ideals- things that even when they use “problematic” slurs or language for certain groups to stay in character to the period- their attitudes and treatment of them would make them EXTREME liberals or progressives in their time- and thus make them more likable to use since a moderate in many ancient times would be a complete racist asshole in 2020?

And maybe Netflix figures that there weren’t a lot of Asian folks or Mexicans running around ancient Romania or King Arthur’s court or whatever- but they are also aware there are a lot of various people in society today, and a lot of actors and actresses from these groups who would be out of work almost on most western “folk history” because of the realities at those times- and they figure its fiction, that isn’t period accurate (which usually is part of the draw unless you like watching Amish folks go about their day and dislike dragons and battles and tv dramatics..)?

But I dunnoh. For those folks that like their history to be 100% accurate and have studied ancient linguistics it can be quite frustrating I’m sure.
