I would argue that Die Hard is many things- and one of them is a Christmas movie. It’s set at Christmas, or exudes a holiday appropriate spirit of family and friendship and togetherness. It’s also an excellent any time movie, which many Christmas movies honestly aren’t very “good” except in their nostalgic context to the holiday- most people won’t just decide that a random night in June is a good day to watch Rudolph with their homies. Although Diehard With a Vengeance is the obvious summer appropriate flic- but all 3 films are good all year round. When Winter Holidays come though- Diehard belongs on the rotation list.

Not just X-mad though. In addition to the aforementioned all year round appropriateness- Die hard May center around a “Christmas party,” but it is also a great Hanukah film. Many themes are dead on- a group of people trapped together in a building under extreme threat of danger, limited resources, etc. etc.
