Breonna Taylor was a 26 year old woman who was fatally shot in Kentucky by a police officer two months ago. The police were investigating a case and entered her house allegedly without knocking or announcing they were police, and in plainclothes. (The police claim that they announced first, but her boyfriend, who was there at the time, claims they never heard anything. This is technically a matter of hearsay, but given that the boyfriend called the police about a home intruder, I think he's telling the truth. He also claims Taylor shouted "Who is it?" several times but they got no response) Acting in self defense, the boyfriend fired at the officers, and the officers shot twenty rounds, eight of which hit Taylor. The current legal case against them also claims the officers fired "with a total disregard for the value for human life." I don't know enough to judge on that.

Because Taylor and the boyfriend were both innocent, the police didn't indicate they were police well enough making the self-defense fair in the eyes of many, the police were legally allowed to not announce anyway because no-knock warrants are a thing, because the 20 rounds were excessive anyway (that's what they say, I don't know if that's valid) and because the people they were looking for were already apprehended by the police and they just didn't realize. many people have been outraged and the current BLM protests are in part fueled by said outrage.

My two cents, because you definitely care: I feel like the cops very well could have announced they were there like they claim, and they just weren't heard, but the no-knock warrant thing does have some flaws to it and it is a shame innocent people died because of what might have just been a mix-up. I don't think it's necessarily police brutality but I feel like her death should be the impetus to some change to make sure these kinds of things don't happen, if possible. Based on what I know, I also think the boyfriend was acting legally and I don't think he's lying.
Ah I see. I just thought it was another random IGer or e-celeb or whatever else I hadn't heard of. I had heard mention of this case but wasn't familiar enough with it and didn't know her name.

Ty for the breakdown. And your two cents sounds fair to me lol
