Yeah, I find it hard to understand a lot of people over here, and I've lived here my entire life. The few times I've visited London were hell when it came to speaking to people.
When you respond with "hmm, pardon?", people think you're disrespecting them somehow?
Also, people who fawn over accents rarely talk about thick accents. Light accents are the only ones that are appreciated. Any accent sounds nice when it's just a little.
