It’s referred to as “speed tape,” is hundreds or thousands of dollars a roll, is specified by aircraft makers and engineers for certain repairs, and is a safe and legal temporary repair for non critical damage. In some cases it is actually safer to use the speed tape than do an on the spot repair (if that is even practical) and it is even used in combat aircraft.
