"To show you the power of the Masamune." *SLASH* "I cut this mountain in half."

One of the playable characters in the 1995 hit role-playing game Chrono Trigger, Frog wasn't always so froggy. Initially, he was a human called Glenn who squired for a knight called Cyrus. But after a fateful encounter with a mage called Magus (yeah, I know) and a demon called Ozzie (no, not Osbourne) Cyrus was killed, and Glenn was turned into a frog. He spent decades languishing in sorrow until the hero Crono restored and gave him the legendary sword Masamune. While primarily a melee fighter, Frog's magic element is Water and he can be taught water-based spells. (And yes, he hops instead of walking)
