Yeah. It’s almost as if... they understand math... and one percent of 100,000,000 is one million. Which is more people that most people will see in their entire lives, and about one million more friends or loved ones most people would want to lose because someone else couldn’t be bothered to just wear a mask. Almost as if... the government has a responsibility to take practical measures to ensure that people can conduct themselves in public without worrying about dying....
We could of course point out all the things that have higher risk of mortality. But firstly- most of those require the person at risk of dying make a choice other than “go outside.” Secondly, risk of mortality vs risk of exposure are two different things. You have a very high risk of mortality from touching a power line and ground- but a very low risk of being exposed to that situation. Thirdly, any significant risk you can likely name- the government specified legal steps which are meant to mitigate that risk.
So compared to say... alcohol- very dangerous. Age restricted purchase. Rules on when and where it can be consumed. Rules and liability for servers. Licensing requirements. Cut offs for service, AND many localities do not allow its sale at ALL. Big danger, big restrictions. Still big mortality rate. Covid... wear a mask. Small restriction. Small mortality rate. Wow. It is almost like... it’s some sort of reasonable and proportional response.
I suppose perception is relative- but I don’t think it’s implying you will die- rhyming slogans tend to not be the most precise by nature of needing to be short word play, and for a simple rhyming scheme. But the “casket” could be someone else’s- not your own, but I do grant that not EVERYONE is likely to contract Covid even if we took no steps to stop it- however since carriers can have it and be unaware- I see the implication to be that you have no real way to know wether you’re potentially a carrier or not, and that you are risking killing someone.
To use a gun analogy- one of the first rules of firearms is that you always treat a gun as though it is loaded with a bullet, you don’t point it at yourself or others, pull the trigger frivolously and so forth. The odds that you’ve inspected the weapon and confirmed it is not loaded, and made a mistake are very slim. The odds that if it is loaded and you don’t know it, someone will be shot are relatively slim. The odds of shot, a human will die, still fairly slim. Total odds of danger are relatively low- but why take the risk when a simple precaution can likely mean the difference between a fatal accident and safety? It’s a tad melodramatic- but go to a gun store or sit with a police officer and have them confirm a gun isn’t loaded- then point it at them (don’t...) their reaction would tell you that people do not appreciate the carelessness of others even potentially endangering them.
So it isn’t that it is CERTAIN someone will die- it is that you do not have the right to gamble with a strangers life no matter how much you “know” you aren’t infected or how overblown you think the danger is or what your opinions on masks or any of it are- the world is not made for us, the world is many people, and they have their own ideas too- so we set rules which are meant to serve as many people as best as possible, and that means there are some compromises in there.
I know this is a tangent, but as you're the two people I'd point this at most, this is as good a spot as any:
Trump finally said it: "nobody likes me" lmao
Gosh darn it. Everything is delayed this year. Cyberpunk.... I’m glad they’re making sure it’s good to ship but I was really looking forward to playing it in September.
In a way I hope it never does. I mean- 1. I know some people have it real rough right now, so for their sake I do. But if it was just me, I’m pretty happy. And 2. Not really “never” since forever is a long time for anything. But if he very personally happy if this could keep up for at least a few years. Light traffic and no people. Living the Dream.
Speaking of which, a truck flipped over off the freeway not long ago. How the Hell that was managed we may never know, as I think dudeman went through the windshield.
Holy frijoles. To the truck thing. Sorry for that person. I’ve seen a few accidents recently- don’t have statistics, but I do know a lot of folks have been driving questionably with less people and police on the roads. People here have been taking to the streets in all manner of blatantly non road worthy vehicles. As for the troll- I have at least one. Sometimes I LITERALLY hit submit on a new comment and as soon as I see it- I have a down vote.
A man with a decent head for business and self acquisition of wealth, survived by a family and who for any of his faults did do some good by the world in his long and prestigious career. I get what you mean though, I can put asides that I didn’t care for his politics and was personally ambivalent to him as a person- but there is some poetic twist to his cause of death given his history of opposing health care on financial grounds, and some of his other beliefs and backings or associations with persons known to be less than 100% in the fight against Covid. It’s a double waste, any lost life is lost potential- and his could have been a teachable moment for many- but I doubt the people who have the most to learn there will learn anything from it. They seldom do because it didn’t happen to them, and empathy is a characteristic that is in short supply when you go extremely to the margins in any direction in general.
Lol I try. Although lately I haven’t been as level headed as I should be on some key issues- but that’s just because people want to debate then like they are relative to feelings, as of saying that not liking gravity illegitimatizes it. We can talk about feelings- provided it is in context to feelings and not being stated tantamount to fact. I think that’s where extremists on the left and right often get lost.
More or less. The world is a place of extremes but doesn’t exist in extremes. There is extreme heat and extreme cold- but there are many gradients between. When you cut out the between- you aren’t seeing the world. You’re looking through a telescope and seeing this one facet of things magnified many times bigger than it is so that it is the entire picture to you, and so focused you are that you don’t, can’t- see what is going on around you or the bigger picture. A world view based on only a sliver of the world can only contain a sliver of truth- and it can only apply to that which you know, which the extremist has made it known they only know that one magnified image and nothing else. They only know boiling and freezing. Their views are inherently flawed because their perception is flawed.
Lmao. Thank you. Most of what I do is pretty pointless objectively. But- what the hell. If I play my cards right a congressman may steal a quote from me for a speech someday and not give me credit. So I have prospects here.
