Oh yeah. They added them to the film version. If you pause the scene at various points you can clearly see several starts- Ian Mckellen, Elijah Wood, Orlando Bloom, Sean Bean, John Rhys-Davies, Sean Astin, to name a few. I guess one could argue in the book we could make the case Gandalf and perhaps a couple others were stars in their own rights.
