You think that is bad my Mom started high school in my hometown in 1966.
The high school was brand NEW it was the first year to EVER have students.
I attended this school in 2000. We that year moved back to my hometown after living somewhere else for most my life.
I was in 11th grade and was taking class for the school newspaper.
First class I am handed a text book I open it and there in the cover where you write who the book belongs to at the top it says MY MOM’S NAME!
Not only that but I even found scribbles of my Mom’s first name and my Dad’s last name written like Mrs. (her name) (his last name) lol.
My Mom started dating my Dad in 1968!
So that means that book was at the least somewhere around 32 YEARS OLD!!!
Yikes. My high school was over 100 years old in 2 of the 4 hallways and it /showed/. There were holes in the floor that desks routinely dropped through in class with students in them, poor to no ac/heat control, massive pest issues, and last but definitely not least original chalkboards & original “colored” water fountains. They tore those halls down after I graduated and that’s honestly for the better
The high school my mom went to was built to combine the blacks and whites high school.
But they built a 2 level school and you can tell the top level was meant for white students because the top level had nice bathrooms and the lockers were bigger and better looking.
The classes all had large black boards made of slate.
The bottom level which only entrance was the lunch room which was only nice room on the floor. Or you could use stairs that lead from the second floor down. The school was built into a hill so the second floor was really the main floor.
The basement for parts for that shitty lockers that even in the first year began to rust.
And due to improper Building The forward flood Yet for some reason The flight would never reach the cafeteria part of that floor. The classrooms are small and cramped And had no Black boards. My mom said teachers used to pin a big strip of paper to the wall.
It wasn’t until my mom was in 12th grade today “finish” the building.
