Whilst we did have a gun buyback scheme after the events of March 15th, it was more effective. In my opinion it was too reactionary which is one of my biggest critiques of Ardern .
That's what the biggest criticisms said too, because in the shooters manifesto he said he wanted gun control to happen. But in truth, it's not the case. Many people were actually in support of the buyback (gun-owners as well as non-owners) but there were definitely a vocal minority screeching about their rights (despite the fact that we don't have a right to bear arms).
The press and privacy are responsibilities as well. As is protest, voting, food, education, and ownership. There are many things my nation fails to grasp, bearing arms, fundamentally, is not amongst them.
Privacy is a right, the press are neither a right or responsibility. Protesting is a right (free speech). But bearing arms, that is 100% a responsibility. No one is born with the right to own a gun. You need to prove that you can be responsible before you can buy a gun.
You need to prove that you have nothing to hide before you have privacy. You need to prove that you agree with me before you can speak or protest. Noone is born with those, they need to prove they are responsible before they can pay the taxes to have those privileges.
Agree with you before I speak or protest??? I don't think you know what a protest is. And no one has to prove they have nothing to hide, you have no right to my private life or private info.
Everyone is born with the right to free speech. To peaceful protest. To privacy. And to keep and bear arms. I do not need to prove anything to exercise that or any inherent right. Any infringement is a stand against all of those natural rights.
Just like you. You argued my point you magnificent bastard.
^^ What they said. And I fail to see how I proved your point when you have not even made a valid point.
I'll argue this to the death, but having said that, I would defend your right to argue against me to the death as well.
Mental illness cannot be discriminated against until it is proven in a court of law that an individual person is unfit. You'll also find that many of us in America have been handling firearms or even hunting since 10 or younger. It is rarely us that has an "accident", usually it's a kid who was never taught or familiarized with firearms. Personally I went on my first hunt at 7, and fired a live rifle for the first time a year before.
Though you'll find that children don't have the full rights of citizens, nobody needs to prove themselves competent before exercising any other inherent right. Somebody else needs to prove, on an individual basis in a fair trial, that a person has already proven incompetent or dangerous.
A firearm is not a right. Anything you need a licence/permit for is a responsibility, not a right. No one has the right to drive a car, you need to prove you are competent and responsible.
This happened mid 2019 after the Christchurch mass shooting. In reality about 10,000 illegal firearms were returned, out of an estimated 1 million thought to be in the country.
This is old news, and not even correct. In fact, on the first day, many hand-in stations were open for hours after they said they'd be, because of the sheer volume of weapons being handed in. My opinion on the matter is mixed. While I don't believe private citizens should be able to access guns, because that can easily be a slippery slope to more instances like the March 15 attacks, I also recognise that criminals probably don't care about any laws legislating against that, especially if they have premeditated intent.
