Hey! Look at me, I’m a genius! Ever see a rave car driver? They’ve got cal lock harnesses with anti submarine belts, helmets, head and neck restraints (like the HANS device) AND full roll cages. So that obviously means that seatbelts in cars don’t do anything and seatbelts laws are an unconstitutional conspiracy!

Oh. Wait. No. The fact that race car drivers have more equipment and more robust seat belts has to do with their job, and the dangers they face. Now, the government asked people not to use N95 masks so there wouldn’t be a shortage for those at high risk in critical conditions. Know what else the government- and pretty much EVERY major health organization recommended? Staying away from other people as much as humanly possible, only going out for things you need and practicing social distancing when you must go out. You know who literally can’t stay away from people or social distance? Doctors. Effectively doing their jobs requires close proximity to people- often known infected people- for prolonged periods.

It’s not a new problem, I swear the last few years have been extra bad though, or maybe I’ve just seen too much of it- think, think again, then If you aren’t a person who experts in a field come to for advice and direction- if you haven’t studied it to an advanced level- maybe... don’t try and be an expert opinion? Maybe... trust the experts, or do your own research to peer review standards... and then... think hard one last time... and if you meet these criteria... speak. Take some time out of your busy lives and learn the difference between a matter of fact and a matter of opinion. That could help. Maybe... learn how things work...? At least on a basic level?

You’ve got people taking about the election and fraud and who won... who don’t even know how the process of an election works let alone counting votes. From masks to guns to whatever- people talking about the constitutionality who have never read the constitution much less understood it- and forget about familiarity with Supreme Court precedent and constitutional interpretation. It’s... sad. And then people are bemoaning that social media platforms are removing posts that contain outright bulls&it or wild and unsupported conjecture as fact.

Censorship is a very serious issue. We must be vigilant to not allow the government or corporations to be able to censor people who might be saying things that they don’t want you to hear, but are true. But there is a HUGE difference between whistleblowing and flinging turds. It’s exceptionally sad that so many people cannot see the difference. In theory- not allowing idiots to speak or to vote would certainly solve a lot of problems. And there comes a point where idiocy is just plain dangerous. In practice- that system allows a lot of room for abuse, if we can censor anyone we call an idiot- whoever decides who is an idiot holds the power to control knowledge. So censoring idiots is not going to work, even if it sometimes appeals to a dark and frustrated part of us that would like all the idiots like this guy to just be quiet and let the grownups talk.

But refusing to allow a media platform to be used to transmit messages that are untrue or lack credible proof? We kinda need more of that. That’s what journalism was at one point. It wasn’t a 24 hour entertainment business about finding a “core demographic” and then keeping their interest. It shouldn’t be. It should be news. It should be evidence based and not simply salacious gossip or rumor. What’s wrong with these people? Johnny Depp is accused of beating his ex wife. The man hasn’t even had his legal right in court to defend himself through due process and people are ready to call him or her guilty or innocent on whatever proof they feel they have.

People talk a lot about false accusations. At the heart of the Amber Heard Johnny Depp divorce are false allegations and public and legal reaction to them. People talk about false accusations of rape and assault. About how those accusations alone, even proven false can ruin a persons life, cost them their career or their family and relationships.

Do you know WHY that is? Because as soon as there is an allegation- the pack of wild jackenapes are already decided on what they want to believe. Who’s “side” they are on or what version of events and verdict suits their worldview and agenda.

There are days when I want to fly up into orbit and look down on all creation, see the world spinning beneath me and scream at the top of my lungs at everyone below: “YOU’RE WHY WE CAN’T HAVE NICE THINGS.”

If you are not one of these people, take no offense. This wasn’t directed at you. If you are one of these people- if you keep talking about mask conspiracies and ineffectiveness, election tampering, etc etc.... please. Just use your brain more than your mouth. At least make it a point to do once a day and work up to every time you open your mouth? Take that extra time and energy and direct it to actually proving the things you keep spouting out your $hit chute? Because of these things are real- you can find some actual evidence. You can build an actual case, you can get actual experts to listen. You can expose them. Speak your opinions freely but stop mixing up fact and opinion. Go to night school. Take some classes on critical thinking, logic, science- learn deductive reasoning. Please. For everyone’s sake.

A lot of the country is upset the rest thinks they are idiots. A lot of the country is upset that a whole bunch of us are idiots. The solution where everyone wins- stop being idiots.

I mean, the masks *do* only slow the spread, not stop it altogether, but that's the point, as far as I know.
