My boyfriend's mom gave us this bread mini oven because she wasn't using it anymore and lemme tell ya, that stuff is magic. You just pour in the ingredients (we use a store bought whole-wheat mix) + water and it does the rest by itself. We even made banana bread in it, and it was amazing! For any of my fellow bread lovers, bug your loved ones until they give you one for Christmas, it's awesome.
I remember having one of those when I was a kid in the early 90s. They were all the rage for about a year but fell out of fashion because they were kind of a pain to clean and bread is not expensive enough to really get a return on investment. Plus they took up a ton of counter space. Not sure if they have improved the design in the last 30 years but I did enjoy the bread that they made.
The one we have isn't hard to clean at all, you can take out the metal container and clean it with the dishes. The spinning spatula thing that kneads the dough has to be soaked in water first because there's usually bits of dough stuck to it but again, not a big deal for me. As for the cost, one bag of the mix (the whole-wheat ones we buy anyway) costs about as much as a loaf of good quality white bread, and you can make two smaller loaves out of one bag, so I think it's actually pretty cost efficient.
