The coversation is about government spendings, specifically defense vs healthcare, no? I'd say that's in the ballpark of economics. Should the purpose of government not invovle helping it's people?

The purpose of the US government is to preserve the liberty of it's people, to provide a system of justice for criminals and civil disputes, and to mediate interstate disputes.
